How We Teach Maths

The National Curriculum for Mathematics aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • become fluent in the fundamentals of Mathematics
  • reason mathematically
  • can solve problems by applying their Mathematics to a range of problems.

At St Lawrence, the National Curriculum aims are delivered through the Singapore approach to Maths Mastery. The programme we use is called 'Maths No Problem'. Please view our Curriculum Tab to view our  scheme of works for each year group.

Fundamental Idea - Mastery

Teaching maths for mastery is a transformational approach to maths teaching which stems from high performing Asian nations such as Singapore. When taught to master maths, children develop their mathematical fluency without resorting to rote learning and are able to solve non-routine maths problems without having to memorise procedures.
