Class Update
Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers
We have continued to work hard since our last update and have now completed our Darwin theme. We can explain how fossils are formed and recently, our final piece explaining how humans have evolved, showed the thoughtful questioning and the interest of the children in this fascinating area of science and history. We are looking forward to our next theme of Frozen Kingdom, which will feature environmental impact, animal classification, exploration and the infamous journey of the Titanic.
The children have produced very effective paintings in the style of Marianne North in art and created maps using six figure grid references in geography.
Our maths topics have included interpreting graphs, finding the mean, measuring and calculating angles, negative numbers, Roman Numerals and translation and reflection. Please continue to revise these areas, as well as volume, area and perimeter.
We recently took part in two football tournaments and our Year 5/6 teams showed ability, teamwork and determination. We were very proud of their achievements.
We have continued to practise the year 6 spelling patterns as well as the grammar in the curriculum, with Kahoot quizzes to recall and consolidate learning. The children also planned and wrote some interesting fables of their own, using speech to advance the plot. We have continued to practise answering comprehension questions accurately and reading at home remains valuable and enriching.
We are incredibly proud of the children this week as they demonstrated the school values during their SATs. Each day began with a delicious breakfast and our thanks go to the parents who provided the tasty treats! The children were positive and resilient and gave their very best efforts. They have reflected on how to cope best with challenges and what we have learnt from this process in preparation for the future.
With best wishes for a restful and enjoyable weekend from the Year 6 Team.
