Class Update - Spring 1

One of the highlights this term must be our visit to Henley Fort in Guildford! It really was the perfect way to kick-start our learning theme and we all learned so much about what like was like during WWII. A huge thank you to all of the parents for making this visit possible by bringing the children to and from Guildford.

Our visit to Henley Fort guided our writing for this half term as we have written letters as evacuees and as ARP Wardens or Home Guards, and we have finished by writing WWII inspired poems.

In our maths lessons, we have been looking at ratio and algebra. The children have shown such resilience and commitment as we have been getting to grips with these tough areas of the maths curriculum! We have continued to develop our arithmetic skills and have been getting more confident at using the standard methods for multiplication and division.

In science, we have been learning the scientific symbols for circuits and have drawn circuits using these. We have carried out an investigation to find out what affect voltage has on a bulb, ensuring that our test was fair. We were lucky to receive a SATRO electronics workshop to enhance this learning with lots more hands-on, practical investigations.

In art, the children have produced London skyline silhouettes and have used watercolours to create a sunset skyline.

We look forward to sharing all our work with you at our Open Classroom afternoon later in the month.

We thank you for your continued support,

The Year 6 Team
